Technically Hong Kong. Shui is a third culture kid, she was born in Japan and spent her childhood in Singapore and Beijing.
What do you like doing for fun?
Shui enjoys going to friends’ events and shows to support them!
How did you get started?
Shui started drawing as a child. Her first drawings were inspired by Doraemon and The Very Hungry Caterpillar. She eventually went to art school in London to study illustration, where she developed her current style and medium. After university, she was encouraged by the underground art and music scene in Beijing to make zines and share her illustrations.
What kind of art do you do/like?
Shui’s work mostly consists of reportage illustration and comics based on silly characters. She prefers to draw from life as she finds photo references to be too limiting, so a lot of her illustrations are based on observational sketches and made on location. As for other kinds of art, Shui really enjoys experiencing interactive art and installations that are immersive and memorable.
