The Design Show 2026 at Temasek Polytechnic

The Design Show marked the end of nearly 4 months of work for my peers and I at Temasek Polytechnic School of Design. The annual graduate exhibit had its closing night about three weeks ago and what seems to linger since feels light.

There is this growing sense of relief and pride I have for myself and for my buds. For all we have experienced, endured and accomplished in genuine love and fiery hate over the past three years. It’s been quite a ride. I can’t speak for my friends but I am just itching all over. I am so ready to get going with something else. It feels good to be unbound again. I hope to disclose this much and spare you from the full extent of the turmoil.

But gee wizz oh golly gosh, it’s finally over y’all.

Leanne joined me on the last day of the Show and we lapped once around each diploma showcase, beginning with Digital Film and Television earlier that afternoon. We caught three back-to-back screenings at the TV Studio which effectively put us on a high-speed rollercoaster of emotions.

Sandwiched in between Pigsy’s Big Journey and Chope!, two wholesome adventure-comedy films, was Let Me Be Your Cover. This one got both of us shedding tears.

It was such a pleasure to hear from the crews involved in each production. Listening to bits of how each film came to be, how the crew navigated technical challenges and how they worked with spontaneity just gave each film much more charm and character.

Most of what we had documented from that day were of our encounters with various tactile components of Communication Design and Apparel Merchandising projects. Ranging from hand-bound catalogs to branded teabags to 3D-printed figurines, these components served as tangible, sensory experiences that enhanced our understanding of each unique narrative.

I’m inspired by thoughtful user experience design. It’s admirable when the design is also able to leave an impression without needing to hinge on graphics. That simplicity and impact is just lovely.

Besides going home with a colourful photo gallery, our pockets also filled with stickers and name cards we snagged along the way. Leanne was visibly overwhelmed by the end of it all, though she did find it quite captivating. My nose would probably start growing if I denied feeling even a little dizzy too.
